El Garzal

El Garzal is an immersive, transmedia multimedia exhibition that converges around the natural habitat of a heronry: a space where different species of herons gather in breeding colonies to complete their reproductive cycle. The cocoi heron, the great egret, the capped heron and the roseate spoonbill are part of this community.

Produced throughout 2024 and premiered in April 2025 in the department of Treinta y Tres (Uruguay), the exhibition was later moved to Rocha. Its journey continues, bringing the essence of the heronry to different cities and towns.

The project highlights the relevance of these habitats as true generators of life, inviting deep reflection and rediscovery through different perspectives and formats. To represent this magical space, we chose to capture its essence in a simple and direct way: defragmenting, fragmenting and distributing its components across a variety of devices.

Formats of the experience

The centerpiece of the exhibition is a branch structure where every visitor can contribute by adding their own element. In this way, visitors not only become active participants in the space, but are also the medium that generates the representation of the heronry.

Community participation —expressed through the collaborative creation of a structure similar to the heronry— represents the community's commitment to the protection and preservation of these valuable habitats.
