A documentary that journeys through the wetlands and coastal lagoons of Uruguay — a unique ecosystem and habitat for hundreds of migratory and resident bird species. Through the eyes of biologists, ornithologists and local communities, the film invites us to reflect on the importance of protecting these territories in the face of uncontrolled development and climate change.
Since its release, Vuelvo al Sur has had a remarkable international journey: it was selected at film festivals and international ornithology congresses around the world, and won awards in India and the United States. It was part of the Detour New Film Festival in Montevideo and the Punta del Este Film Festival, and was later broadcast on TV Ciudad and the Vera TV platforms.
Alongside its festival circuit, the film had a strong community-driven vocation: with the participation of the biologists and ornithologists team from the Fundación Lagunas Costeras (Coastal Lagoons Foundation), it was screened in rural areas, community halls and schools across the country's interior, bringing the story closer to the communities that live alongside these ecosystems every day.
